Transitioning a traditional school library program and services to a library learning commons approach is supported by research indicating that the development of flexible learning environments designed to provide interactive and collaborative opportunities and experiences is essential to address the contemporary needs of school communities. Yet, the transformation can be difficult to envision and implement without some help from those in the know and those who have been there! We have both on hand for this pre-conference workshop. Well-known Learning Commons expert, David Loertscher, addresses the critical elements of transition. He is joined by participants from several NH schools who have already begun to incorporate learning common concepts and will share ideas and best practice. Included as part of the workshop is a guided tour of the Shapiro Library/Wolak Library Learning Commons at SNHU. This is a world-class example of a fully realized Library Learning Commons and one that can help us envision what our students can expect to encounter as they continue their educational and life-long learning pathways. The registration fee includes breakfast, lunch, and transportation to and from SNHU. This workshop is offered ONLY in the BYOD (bring your own device per the requirements listed) format.
