Learn how to find, evaluate and use educational apps that have been field tested over time in classrooms with children of all abilities- apps that truly promote learning, accessibility, engagement and depth of knowledge. With its ease of access, low cost, multi sensory, customizable apps for every possible interest and subject area, the iPad is a powerful educational tool. But sifting through thousands of apps in the App Store can be a daunting task. There are an overwhelming 80,000 apps in the educational category of the App Store, with a great deal of variability in quality, content and design. Apps that simply digitize traditional practice are less powerful than apps that support more effective approaches to teaching and learning based on sound research. This workshop will address the question, "What makes an app educational rather than merely entertaining?" and offer an evidence-based blueprint for analyzing the educational quality of apps. This will be a hands-on session where participants will explore effective apps that promote collaboration, creativity and thinking skills; exceptional reading, writing, math and science apps to motivate and engage students, differentiate instruction and remove barriers to learning. We will focus on Pre-K-3rd Grade and Special Education. An extensive list of apps along with some Promo Codes to try them out will be provided.
