Learn how the digital age has heralded explosive growth in the amount of data created, stored and transmitted on computers and mobile devices, over the Internet and broadband, and on social media sites. The very same technological advancements that have defined the times also pose serious threats to our personal information security, and serious potential liability to businesses and public entities that gather and retain this data. In recent years, there has also been a proliferation of federal and state laws that impose various disparate obligations regarding the security of personal data about students, residents, employees, customers, and the public. This seminar will address the dangers that we face in this regard, an overview of applicable data security laws, and the steps that businesses and public entities should take to mitigate those risks and respond in the event of a data security breach. Cameron Shilling is a Director at McLane Middleton, P.A., where he is the Chair of the firm's Privacy and Data Security Group. In his 20 plus years as an attorney, Cam has managed, litigated and resolved numerous data security, technology and complex litigation matters throughout New England and around the country. His depth and breadth of experience in data security includes managing risk assessments and audits, preparing and implementing written data security policies, training executives, managers and employees on data security procedures.
