Learn why Arduino is a great, and frustrating, microcontroller platform! Much of our world is controlled with microcontrollers now. With Arduino students learn real life application, (we literally use the same motion detector pieces already installed in our classrooms!), problem solving, collaboration and debugging in a big way! Microcontrollers are great for students that like to be hands-on or that are drawn to code but don't want to stare at a screen all day. Students can wire up their own projects, load the code and edit as needed. They will then SEE a physical representation of that code, (lights blinking, sensors reacting, motors moving etc.). Robots are great but this application is as much fun for females as it is males and doesn't came with the same preconceived notions. Discover how to create an engaging research project centered around the Periodic Table of the Elements. This presentation will showcase a 5th grade project where students researched an element from the Periodic Table and created an interactive image for their element using ThingLink. They linked the required research information to their ThingLink and they created an explainer video on MySimpleShow.com which was also linked. Students then shared their ThingLinks with the class and created a class interactive periodic table using ThingLink. Talk about how they put together a The Bobcat Morning Show. It is a student managed television production team facilitated by two co-teachers. The student news team airs a live show every morning at 7:30 a.m. The show is then uploaded to SchoolTube and the school website. This enables parents and the wider community to view the daily show to learn what is happening at Great Brook. Students will show how they use technology to create every aspect of the show including green screen, movies, and Wire Cast. The students are responsible for writing scripts, submitting feature stories, interviewing guests, and presenting the daily news. Discover a powerful and easy to use platform that allows students to learn how to program virtual and real robots. Now you can program your robot on the screen first, and then progress to program either a Lego EV3 or a Tetrix robot. North Reading High School Change Team will demonstrate and present CoderZ. Participants can follow along on their laptop or chromebook and learn about how to program a robot via simulation. North Reading students will also demonstrate how to download the code from the simulation to an actual EV3 robot. CoderZ is a powerful and easy to use platform that allows students to learn how to program virtual and real robots. It is a unique STEM experience that offers students experience with either block based or advanced coding simulations. It is an online tool that will run from any web browser and also integrates with Lego EV3.
